My company is based out of DUMBO in Brooklyn and the coworking spaces around there are like $150/mo for a dedicated desk.Due to a concentration of knowledge work and professional services jobs, major metropolitan areas such as Washington, D.C. Especially since I can't even make calls at my desk. Maybe I'm just being cheap but to me $300 a month is a lot to work at the snazzy coworking spaces like Uber, WeWork, WorkDistrict, etc.

I've worked outside at NoMa a couple days as they have free outside wifi and benches lol. Then I leave and work on emails and presos and such remotely at coffee shops or wherever. What I do now is allot certain times of the day, a block in the morning and block in the afternoon, to make calls at home. I moved so it's now a pain to get to the Hive.

They have conference rooms that can be reserved for free but you have to justify your reason for using them based on community access. They don't have private rooms you can just show up and use. Libraries aren't really an option for making calls. You definitely have to use call boxes at Cove locations however to make calls. I looked at no food options as a good thing as it forced me to pack a lunch and just work instead of spending money.Ĭove charges by amount of usage so that could be cost effective if you aren't looking to spend 8 hours a day/40 hours a week in a place. For the price, I dealt with it because I had a place to work, get out of the apartment and make calls. And there's nothing really around it in terms of food options and such altho there is Nurish upstairs in the Arts Center. It's not glizty like WeWork or the other NW-centric coworking spaces. I lived in Navy Yard so biking over wasn't an issue for me. First, it's across the river in Anacostia so getting there can be kind of a pain. Why would I pay for that privilege? Just so I can feel like I'm part of a dot com and have access to a kegerator? For $300 a month, no thanks.

They're freaking expensive and even then, especially if you get a hot swap desk, you can't make calls at the desk but rather usually have to go to a call box.

Not only are you being rude to actual patrons of a place but you have noise to deal with on what I assume is suppose to be a professional call. I too have to make a lot of calls so coffee shops and public places don't cut it. Your biggest issue is the need to make calls.
